BIS Certification for Plywood and Wooden Flush Door Shutters as per IS 303, IS 2202 (PART 1 AND 2), IS 710, IS 5509, IS 1328, IS 2191 (PART 1 AND 2) AND IS 4990

Plywood is a versatile building material made from thin layers of wood veneer glued together, resulting in a strong and stable sheet. It is commonly used in construction and interior design for its durability and flexibility. Plywood finds widespread application in furniture making, flooring, and cabinetry due to its ability to resist warping and splitting, making it a popular choice for various projects.

Wooden flush door shutters, on the other hand, are essential components of interior and exterior doors. These shutters are crafted from solid wood or engineered wood products like particleboard or MDF. They are designed to provide security, privacy, and aesthetics to homes and commercial spaces. Wooden flush door shutters offer a timeless appeal and can be customized to match the overall design theme of a property, making them a preferred choice for creating inviting and functional entrances.

This article explores BIS certification for various wood products, including Plywood for General Purposes (IS 303:1989), Wooden Flush Door Shutters (IS 2202 Part 1:1999), Fire Retardant Plywood (IS 5509:2021), Veneered Decorative Plywood (IS 1328:1996), and Wooden Flush Door Shutters with Particle Board and Hardboard Face Panels (IS 2191 Part 2:2022). Additionally, we will shed light on how Omega QMS Pvt Ltd facilitates the acquisition of these crucial certifications.

This scheme aims to safeguard consumer interests by setting stringent benchmarks and guidelines that products must meet before they can be deemed compliant. BIS certification covers a wide range of industries and products, encompassing the entire gamut of industrial and manufacturing activity.  Various steps involved in the BIS Certification process are enumerated below:

  • Standard Identification: Manufacturers identify the relevant BIS standard that applies to their chosen product category. These standards outline the specific quality, safety, and performance requirements that the product must meet.
  • Application Submission: Manufacturers submit an application for BIS certification to the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), providing details about the product, its specifications, and the desired certification mark.
  • Factory Inspection: BIS conducts an inspection of the manufacturer’s production facility to assess the quality control processes, infrastructure, and adherence to relevant standards.
  • Sample Testing: BIS collects samples of the product from the manufacturer for testing in authorized BIS laboratories or recognized testing centers. These tests evaluate various parameters specified by the BIS standard.
  • Certification Decision: Based on the satisfactory test results and compliance with standards, BIS decides whether to grant certification to the product. If approved, the manufacturer is issued a BIS certification license.
  • Regular Monitoring: BIS monitors the manufacturing process of certified products through periodic audits and market surveillance to ensure ongoing compliance with quality control processes and standards.
