IS 878:2008 GRADUATED MEASURING CYLINDERS

This Standard specifies dimensions, material and constructional and metrological requirements of graduated measuring cylinders of tall form (Type 1a and Type 1b) and of squat form (Type 2) All types are suitable for general laboratory use. Two classes of accuracy are specified: a) Class A for the higher grade (Type 1a and Type 1b only); b) Class B for lower grade. The cylinders shall be manufactured from glass of hydrolytic class not lower than HGB3. The glass shall be as free as possible from visible defects, and steps shall be taken in manufacture to ensure that it is reasonably free from internal stress. The graduation of all cylinders within this specification shall be in accordance with ISO 384:1978 : Graduation pattern II in the case of Class A cylinders and Graduation pattern III in the cases of Class 3 and Type 2 measuring cylinders. Testing of capacity and accuracy shall be performed in accordance with ISO 4787.

IS 915:2012 ONE-MARK VOLUMETRIC FLASKS

This Standard specifies requirements for an internationally acceptable series of one-mark volumetric flasks, suitable for general laboratory purposes. Two classes of accuracy are specified: Class A for the higher grade, Class B for the lower grade. The series of nominal capacities of one-mark volumetric flasks is as follows (in milliliters): 1 – 2 – 5 – 10 – 20 – 25 – 50 – 100 – 200 – 250 – 500 – 1 000 – 2 000 – 5 000. All these flasks may be finished with a plain neck or may include a stopper. Volumetric flasks shall be made from glass of hydrolytic class not lower than HGB3. The graduation line shall be a clean, permanent, uniform line, of thickness not exceeding 0.4 mm, lying in a plane parallel to the base of the flask and completely encircling its neck.

IS 1381 (PART 1):2003 NARROW-NECKED BOILING FLASKS

This Standard specifies requirements and dimensions for an internationally acceptable series of conical flasks and of flat-bottom and round-bottom flasks for general laboratory purposes. The series of nominal capacities of conical flasks is as follows (given in millilitres):25 – 50 – 100 – 250 – 500 – 1 000 – 2 000 – 3 000 – 5 000. Flasks shall be made from borosilicate glass and shall be free from visible defects and free from internal stress which would impair the performance of the flask. The series of nominal capacities of flat-bottom and round-bottom flasks is as follows (given in millilitres): 50 – 100 – 250 – 500 -1 000 – 2 000 – 4 000 – 6 000 – 10 000.

IS 1117:2018 SINGLE VOLUME PIPETTES

This Standard specifies metrological and constructional requirements for volumetric pipettes with one mark (total delivery) and for volumetric pipettes with two marks, both of which are adequate for general laboratory purposes. The unit of volume shall be the millilitre (ml), which is equivalent to one cubic centimetre. Two classes of accuracy are specified: Class A and AS for the higher grade; Class B for the lower grade. The following two types of single-volume pipettes are specified: those for which no waiting time is specified (Classes A and B); those for which a waiting time of 5 s is specified. Single-volume pipettes shall be manufactured from glass of chemical resistance and thermal properties at least to HGB3 in accordance with ISO 719, shall be as free as possible from visible defects and reasonably free from internal stress.

IS 2619:2018 GLASS BEAKERS

This Standard specifies requirements for an internationally acceptable series of glass beakers for laboratory use. The following three types of beakers are specified: a) low-form beaker with spout; b) low-form beaker with spout, thick-walled; c) tall-form beaker with spout. The series of beakers covered by this International Standard and defined by type and nominal capacity shall be as follows:a) low-form beakers: 5 ml – 10 ml – 25 ml – 50 ml – 100 ml – 250 ml – 400 ml – 500 ml – 600 ml –800 ml – 1 000 ml – 2 000 ml – 3 000 ml – 5 000 ml – 10 000 ml; b) thick-walled low-form beakers: 150 ml – 250 ml – 400 ml – 600 ml – 1 000 ml – 2 000 ml – 5 000 ml; c) tall-form beakers: 50 ml – 100 ml – 150 ml – 250 ml – 400 ml – 500 ml – 600 ml – 800 ml – 1000 ml – 2 000 ml – 3 000 ml – 5 000 ml. Beakers shall be made of borosilicate glass . The glass shall be reasonably free from residual strain and from visible glass defects which might impair the safety and performance of the beaker.

QUALITY CONTROL ORDER (TECHNICAL REGULATION) ISSUED BY THE DEPARTMENT FOR PROMOTION OF INDUSTRY AND INTERNAL TRADE, MINISTRY OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY, GOVT. OF INDIA ON 01 JANUARY 2024 FOR MANDATORY BIS CERTIFICATION

The DPIIT, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Govt. of India, has issued an order, making it mandatory for all laboratory glassware to be used in India, whether manufactured in India or imported from foreign countries, shall mandatorily carry the Standard Mark of the Bureau of Indian Standards under a valid BIS licence. In short, it has become obligatory for all the manufacturers of laboratory glassware, whether in India or overseas, to immediately apply for BIS licence and obtain a valid BIS certification licence before that the last date of implementation of the order, i.e., 30 June 2024.
