INDIAN STANDARDS

1. IS 9755:2021 TEXTILES – HIGH DENSITY POLYETHYLENE (HDPE)/ POLYPROPYLENE(PP) WOVEN SACKS FOR PACKAGING FERTILIZERS— SPECIFICATION

This standard prescribes the requirements of HDPE/ PP woven sacks of 45 kg capacity for packaging of neem coated urea fertilizers and 50 kg capacity for packaging of other than neem coated urea fertilizers, either produced indigenously or imported in bulk and repacked in sacks. Based on packaging capacity, the HDPE/PP woven sacks shall be classified as under: a) Type I — Sacks having nominal capacity of 45 kg for packaging of neem coated urea fertilizers; and b) Type II — Sacks having nominal capacity of 50 kg for packaging of other than neem coated urea fertilizers. The sacks shall conform to requirements of specified dimensions, ends and picks/dm, mass, breaking strength of fabric and seam, elongation, ash content and drop impact strength.

2. IS 11652:2017 TEXTILES – HIGH DENSITY POLYETHYLENE       (HDPE)/POLYPROPYLENE (PP) WOVEN SACKS FOR PACKAGING OF 50 KG CEMENT – SPECIFICATION

This standard prescribes the requirements of high density polyethylene (HDPE)/ polypropylene (PP) woven sacks suitable for packaging of 50 kg cement for domestic market. The sacks shall conform to requirements of specified dimensions, ends and picks/dm, mass, breaking strength of fabric and seam, elongation, ash content and drop impact strength.

3. IS 16709 :2017 TEXTILES – POLYPROPYLENE (PP) WOVEN, LAMINATED, BLOCK BOTTOM VALVE SACKS FOR PACKAGING OF 50 KG CEMENT – SPECIFICATION

Plastic woven sacks are being used for packaging and storage of cement, fertilizers, chemicals and other bulk commodities. This standard has been formulated taking into consideration the increased consumption of block bottom valve sacks made from polypropylene woven laminated raffia fabrics for packaging of cement. These sacks have additional advantages of less environment pollution at the time of packing and transportation, reduced loss of cement during subsequent handling of sacks, resistant to ingress of moisture, pilferage proof packaging, better stack ability and better aesthetics. The sacks shall conform to requirements of specified dimensions, ends and picks/dm, mass, weld strength, air permeability,  breaking strength of fabric and seam, elongation, ash content and drop impact strength.

4. IS 16703:2017 TEXTILES – HIGH DENSITY POLYETHYLENE (HDPE) POLYPROPYLENE (PP) WOVEN SACKS FOR PACKAGING OF 25 KG POLYMER MATERIALS – SPECIFICATION

Plastic woven sacks are being used for packaging and storage of food grains, sugar, cement, fertilizers, chemicals and other bulk commodities. This standard has been prepared taking into consideration the increased consumption of plastic woven sacks for packaging of polymer materials. This standard prescribes requirements of HDPE/PP woven sacks suitable for packaging of 25 kg polymer materials in powder and granulated form, extrusion pelleted compounded materials and master batches. This standard defines terminology commonly used, sack description, sack dimensions, fabric construction details, testing and analysis and, performance criteria for sacks. The sacks shall conform to requirements of specified dimensions, ends and picks/dm, mass, breaking strength of fabric and seam, elongation, ash content and drop impact strength.

5. IS 17399:2020 TEXTILES – POLYPROPYLENE (PP)/HIGH DENSITY POLYETHYLENE (HDPE) LAMINATED WOVEN SACKS FOR MAIL SORTING, STORAGE, TRANSPORT AND DISTRIBUTION – SPECIFICATION

Polypropylene and high density polyethylene laminated woven fabric sacks are being used for sorting, storage, transport and distribution of mail parcels. This standard has been prepared taking into consideration the increased consumption of laminated woven sacks for postal services. The advantages of laminated woven sacks are high tensile strength, outstanding durability, good dimensional stability, easy handling, partial waterproofing property, improved barrier to moisture, light weight, good aesthetics and good printability for multicolour graphic images. This standard prescribes requirements of polypropylene (PP) and high-density polyethylene (HDPE) laminated woven sacks for mail sorting, storage, transport and distribution. This standard defines commonly used terminology, fabric construction details and specification, sack description, sack dimensions, testing and analysis of sacks and, sack performance criteria. The sacks shall be categorized under 3 types as Type I, Type II and Type III, based on sack dimensions , however, the weight carrying capacity for all types of sacks shall be minimum 35 kg. The different sizes of sacks are required for storage and packing of different bulk density parcels. The sacks shall conform to requirements of specified dimensions, ends and picks/dm, mass, breaking strength of fabric and seam, elongation and ash content.

QUALITY CONTROL ORDER (TECHNICAL REGULATION) ISSUED BY THE DEPARTMENT FOR CHEMICALS AND FERTILIZERS, MINISTRY OF CHEMICALS AND FERTILIZERS, GOVT. OF INDIA ON 06 DECEMBER  2023 FOR MANDATORY BIS CERTIFICATION

The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Govt. of India, has issued an order, making it mandatory for all above mentioned packaging materials to be used in India, whether manufactured in India or imported from foreign countries, shall mandatorily carry the Standard Mark of the Bureau of Indian Standards under a valid BIS licence.  In short, it has become obligatory for all the manufacturers of such packaging materials , whether in India or overseas, to immediately apply for BIS licence and obtain a valid BIS certification licence before that the last date of implementation of the order, i.e., 05 June 2024.
