The shoes for general purpose shall be of the following two categories bases on their usage: a) For kids and b) For adults. Further, the shoes for general purpose for adults shall be of two types namely, Type 1 and Type 2. Shape and design of the formal and casual shoe may be of any design as agreed between manufacturer and purchaser. The shoes may be made in fully moulded construction or string lasted or strobel stitched or assembled or through lasting operation or any other construction as required as per design and style. It may also have single or multiple layer at bottom sole. Requirements such as Inter layer bond strength, Whole shoe flexing, Water proofness on complete shoe, Slip resistance, Attachment strength of strap and buckle/D-ring N, Attachment strength of strap and velcro , Strength of eyelet attachment, Heel pull off strength, Seam strength, Abrasion resistance, Chemical requirements, Hydrolysis resistance are are prescribed for general purpose shoes as per IS 17043 (Part 2).

THE GOVT.’S APPROACH TO QUALITY CONTROL

The Govt. of India periodically updates the Quality Control Orders (QCO), expanding its coverage to include more and more products. Recently Govt. of India has included Shoes for General Purposes as per IS 17043 (Part 2) in the ambit of QCO. One of the most significant provisions of this order is that the product  imported into India must have a BIS License.
