The gloves covered by this standard shall be designated as follows: – by class, as class 00, class 0, class 1, class 2, class 3 and class 4; – by special properties, by the addition of a suffix to the class of the glove. All gloves may be lined or unlined. They may have an exterior covering and may be specially compounded to reduce the effects of chemical attack. If gloves have an exterior covering, it shall be of a contrasting colour to assist in visual inspection. Gloves are made of elastomer. Gloves may be manufactured with or without cuff roll. Gloves shall withstand the mechanical, climatic and environmental stresses specified in this standard. Gloves shall be capable of withstanding the corresponding electrical stresses according to its electrical class.

IS 15652:2006 INSULATING MATS FOR ELECTRICAL PURPOSES

The standard is applicable to insulating mats made of Elastomer (a generic term that includes rubbers, latex and elastomeric compounds that may be natural or synthetic or a mixture or a combination of both) for use as floor covering for the protection of workers on ac and dc installations with the system voltages up to 66 kV ac and 240 V dc.  It prescribes the requirements for the performance of the product, method of samplings, testing and acceptance. Four classes of mats, covered under this standard and differing in electrical characteristics for different use voltages. Mats of all classes shall be resistant to acid and oil and low temperature and shall be identified by the respective class symbol. The Bureau of Indian Standards Certification Scheme is a vital framework established by the Indian government to ensure the quality, safety, and reliability of products available in the market. This scheme aims to safeguard consumer interests by setting stringent benchmarks and guidelines that products must meet before they can be deemed compliant. BIS certification covers a wide range of industries and products, encompassing the entire gamut of industrial and manufacturing activity.  Various steps involved in the BIS Certification process are enumerated below:

  • Standard Identification: Manufacturers identify the relevant BIS standard that applies to their chosen product category. These standards outline the specific quality, safety, and performance requirements that the product must meet.
  • Application Submission: Manufacturers submit an application for BIS certification to the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), providing details about the product, its specifications, and the desired certification mark.
  • Factory Inspection: BIS conducts an inspection of the manufacturer’s production facility to assess the quality control processes, infrastructure, and adherence to relevant standards.
  • Sample Testing: BIS collects samples of the product from the manufacturer for testing in authorized BIS laboratories or recognized testing centers. These tests evaluate various parameters specified by the BIS standard.
  • Certification Decision: Based on the satisfactory test results and compliance with standards, BIS decides whether to grant certification to the product. If approved, the manufacturer is issued a BIS certification license.
  • Regular Monitoring: BIS monitors the manufacturing process of certified products through periodic audits and market surveillance to ensure ongoing compliance with quality control processes and standards.
