BIS CERTIFICATION FOR DIESEL ENGINES — NOx REDUCTION AGENT AUS 32 AS PER IS 17042 (PART 1):2020
INTRODUCTION
In the realm of automotive engineering, diesel engines have long been praised for their efficiency and torque. However, one persistent challenge associated with diesel engines is the emission of nitrogen oxides (NOx), which contribute to air pollution and environmental degradation. To mitigate this issue, various technologies have been developed, among which Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) converter systems stand out. These systems rely on a crucial component known as AUS 32, an aqueous urea solution, to effectively reduce NOx emissions. In this article, we delve into IS 17042 (Part 1) :2020, a crucial standard governing NOx reduction covering its scope, classification, and quality requirements. Additionally, we will delve into the role of Omega QMS Pvt Ltd in helping businesses obtain BIS Certification for Disel Engine – Nox Reduction , ensuring that their products meet the requisite safety and quality standards.
UNDERSTANDING IS 17042 (PART 1):2020 DIESEL ENGINES — NOx REDUCTION AGENT AUS 32
This Indian Standard IS 17042 (Part 1) document specifies the quality characteristics of the NOx reduction agent AUS 32 (aqueous urea solution) which is needed to operate selective catalytic reduction (SCR) converter systems in motor vehicles with diesel engines. SCR converter systems are particularly suitable for selectively reducing the nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions of diesel engines. Urea content, Refractive index (nD20), Alkalinity as NH3, Biuret, aldehydes, Insoluble matter, Phosphate (PO4), Aluminium, Calcium, Chromium, Copper, Iron, Potassium, Magnesium, Sodium, Nickel and zinc content are major requirements of AUS 32.
IMPORTANCE OF QUALITY CONTROL ORDER (QCO FOR IS 17042 (PART 1)) ISSUED:
The issuance of a Quality Control Order (QCO) for AUS 32 under IS 17042 (Part 1) holds significant importance for several reasons. Firstly, it ensures that the AUS 32 used in SCR converter systems meets stringent quality standards, thereby guaranteeing optimal performance in reducing NOx emissions. Secondly, it promotes environmental sustainability by facilitating the effective functioning of emission control technologies, thereby reducing the ecological footprint of diesel engines.
QUALITY CONTROL ORDER (QCO FOR IS 17042 (PART 1)) ISSUED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF CHEMICALS AND PETROCHEMICALS, MINISTRY OF CHEMICALS AND FERTILIZERS, GOVT. OF INDIA ON 28 FEBRUARY 2024 FOR MANDATORY BIS CERTIFICATION AS PER IS 17042 (PART 1)
The Deapartment of Chemicals and Petrochemicals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Govt. of India, has issued a QCO for Diesel Engines-NOx reduction, making BIS Certification for AUS 32 as per IS 17042 (Part 1) mandatory, whether manufactured in India or imported from foreign countries, shall mandatorily carry the Standard Mark of the Bureau of Indian Standards under a valid BIS licence. In short, it has become obligatory for all the manufacturers of AUS 32, whether in India or overseas, to immediately apply for BIS licence and obtain a valid BIS certification licence as per IS 17042 (Part 1) for AUS 32 before that the last date of implementation of the order, i.e., 25 August 2024.
BIS CERTIFICATION SCHEME
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) plays a pivotal role in the implementation of IS 17042 (Part 1) through its certification scheme. BIS certification serves as a mark of quality and conformity to specified standards, instilling confidence in consumers regarding the reliability and effectiveness of AUS 32. Additionally, BIS certification promotes market competitiveness by incentivizing manufacturers to adhere to prescribed quality norms.
