QCO for mandatory BIS Certification of Ethylene Glycol, Toulene & n-Butyl Acrylate
On 6th and 7th July 2020, the Government of India proposed Quality Control Orders for certain chemicals at the Technical Barriers to Trade Committee of the World Trade Organization. These are all products on which it recommends compulsory BIS approval. On implementation of these Quality Control Orders, products listed therein will be expected to comply with the Specifications found in the Specifications developed by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), the Central Standardization Body of India, prior to their import into India.
India is finalizing plans to increase the number of chemicals and petrochemicals to be covered by mandatory certification, as a means to reduce excessive dependence on imports. Products marked for certification must conform to the corresponding specifications from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) wherein the government decided to impose BIS standards on certain chemicals and polymer which include ethylene glycol, butyl acrylate, toluene among others.
